Yes I'm a little late. But one day to celebrate love isn't enough in my book. My theme this week is self-love or self-acceptance and I really wanted to bring this theme to my students, teachers, and readers in the wild world of web...see what I did there?
Anyway, I wanted to admit to you all that I have struggled with self-acceptance all of my life. Through yoga and it's many teachings I am learning to let go of these self depricating thoughts an encourage my true voice to speak up! I've realized that this can be extra challenging in the winter months. Something in the season encourages us to dive deep internally and since old habits die hard it's easy for me to get wrapped up in the negative. That's why for me the entire month of February is dedicated to self-love and acceptance.
We have so many different levels of love and people and pets to love that I think it can be easy for us to put ourselves on the back burner. We must remember that we can not give true plentiful love to others without first loving ourselves. This statement has been said before over and over again so much so that we may forget the other half, we cannot recieve love from others with out first loving ourselves.
I encourage you to take time for yourself everyday. Even if it is just 5 minuets. Do something that helps you feel good mentally and physically. Take a bath, go to a yoga class, spend some time meditating, read a book for fun, visit a museum or art gallery, whatever you enjoy. Set your intention before you begin, such as "I am going to read this book because I love me and I'm worth it." Depending on the activity you can use a mantra, or a repeated statement or series of statements. Whatever you choose to do to spend sometime loving yourself practice with intention. I like to use this mantra
I am made of love
I deserve love
I give love to myself and those around
I recieve love from myself and those around me
I am love
It might seem cheesey but I repeat this to myself when I start to get to self-critical. I say it over and over until I can feel the words begin to sink in and sometime I'll yell it with conviction because I tend to like being loud. You can write your own mantra or maybe just repeat one word, just take some time to do what works for you and helps you to feel self-love. What things do you like to do to encourage self-love and acceptance? Please share!
With much Love! Namaste!
